A product of the DC hip-hop scene, APOXY began learning his craft around 2002 painting and photographing the train tracks and underpasses of the DMV, heavily influenced by artists such as SIME, CUEZ, CAVE, REZIST, APES, DEMON 202, RIVERS and REI 21 to name a few.
In 2007 he won a Washington City Paper “Best of DC” Award for painting and curating a massive 'Ninja Turtles' mural on 14th street NW for the Meat Market Gallery, uniting over 50 graffiti writers to complete the task in the middle of winter. After receiving his BFA from the Corcoran College of Art he would self produce the cult graffiti documentary “Chocolate City Burning”, as well as filming and producing for author and curator Roger Gastman on two seminal graffiti documentaries; “Wall Writers” and “The Legend of Cool Disco Dan”. He has helped produce murals with the likes of "Chelove", Coby Kennedy, 'Art Bloc', 'Words Beats & Life' and 'No Kings Collective'.
A classically trained carpenter, his studio works are painted on scrap plywood using the classic “black-book” techniques taught in graff culture. It continues his floral interpretation of graffiti that began on the concrete walls of Kingman Island in late 2023. Many are framed in hand milled driftwood pulled from the Anacostia river. They are adoringly called “Graffiti Flowers”.
Apoxy's latest invention is a roaming record store that is built into a 16 foot u-haul truck named "Honeypot". You can find it cruising the streets of the DMV in Spring of 2025
